News From the Muse, Strange But True January 31, 2012

News of the strange and bizarre from around the country.

And in today's current bizarre new stories for the end of January

  • Go Directly to Jail!

Adam Ashe must really enjoy being behind bars. He had just been released from prison for a conviction on arson and got a bus ride home to Eugene, Oregon. Ashe went straight into a Home Federal Branch in Eugene and robbed it. He was caught and admitted to robbing the bank 3 minutes after getting his freedom! In the original charge thathe had just been released on Ashe had lit a post office trash can on fire in hopes of burning it down. When asked why he did it he said that he was “angry about troops being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan”. Apparently Ashe liked the one year stay at the prison so well he decided to get back in.

  • And Other Stupid Things Criminals Do…

In Syracuse, New York an inmate at a prison filed tax returns totaling $890 million. Apparently while this clown was serving time in a different prisons from 2006-2010 he filed false tax returns. Now what makes this story even more unbelievable is that the state of New York even sent him a return in the amount of $327,000. This of course set off an investigation when prison officials opened his mail and discovered the check. He was originally serving 2-4 years for receiving stolen property. Now he is facing up to 5 years on each of the 11 new charges.

  • Hairy Tale…

In Michigan one boy has been suspended from school for his hair being too long. Now this isn’t so unusual what is unusual is that the boy, J.T. Gaskins, was growing his hair out to donate it for locks of Love. J.T. had been diagnosed with Infant Leukemia when he was a mere 8 weeks old and had been through 5 years of chemo and was free of cancer as of 2003. During the holidays it was learned that a family friend was battling breast cancer and her hair is falling out. J.T. was very moved and decided he wanted to grow his hair out to donate it to Locks of Love, a program for cancer patients that makes and donates wigs to those battling cancer. For his trouble he was suspended from Madison Academy and when his mother, Christa Plante, met with the school board to explain why J.T. was letting his hair grow out and offered different avenues such as a pony tail she was turned down flat by the school board. At this point J.T. is doing his school work from home and plans on graduating this year. The school board meets again in February but at this point it doesn’t look like they are going to back down. There is a double standard going on here when girls can grow their hair as long as they like but boys can’t? Even if it is kept neatly pulled back? Come on Madison Academy! Your policy is as ridiculous as the suspension of J.T. If you would like to learn more about how to donate go to
